BUDDING thespians and backstage helpers are being sought for a community play depicting the life and work of Sabine Baring-Gould. Entitled ?Like a Buoy? or ?The Story of Sabine Baring-Gould ? The Man?, the project to produce this Heritage Lottery funded play will be launched in the ballroom of Lewtrenchard Manor Hotel this Saturday, July 15, from 2.30 to 4pm. It is intended that the lavish community play with music and dance will have a cast of approximately 60 and will be in the mould of previous successes of the Red Spider Company, who are running the project. There will be jobs for everyone, from major to minor roles for old and young people, walking-on parts, musicians, singers, dancers, lighting, stage direction, scenery construction and painting and costume making. The title ?Like a Buoy? comes from a comment made by Baring-Gould during the course of a dispute: ?I am very like a buoy. Every wave goes over me and yet I am never completely submerged. The condition is not a happy one, but there are others that are worse?, which epitomised his struggle to achieve his aims in life against all odds, according to the local author of the play, Ron Wawman. Everyone is welcome to the launch, and more information is also available at http://www.likeabuoy.co.uk">www.likeabuoy.co.uk or from Susanne Clayton on 01822 612796. The play will be staged in the Parish Hall, Bratton Clovelly from March 28-31 2007.
