EVERY five minutes someone in the UK has a stroke and Okehampton Rotary Club have teamed up with the Stroke Association to help combat high blood pressure, the single biggest risk factor for stroke. For the third year running the Rotary Club is working in partnership with the Stroke Association ? on Saturday, April 8, visitors to the Rotary Club coffee morning in the Charter Hall will be able to get their blood pressure checked for free. Strokes are the largest single causes of severe disability. For every ten people who die of a stroke, four could have been saved if they had arranged regular blood pressure measurements and then followed medical advice. Ian Bailey, president of the Rotary Club said: ?We hope people will come in, have their blood pressure checked. It will only take a few minutes but could save their lives. ?Also, I hope people will stay, relax and have a cup of coffee, buy a cake or two and generally enjoy the morning.? The coffee morning runs between 9.30am and midday on Saturday, April 8. Rotary Clubs across Britain have been promoting Stroke Awareness Day for the past three years and this year they hope to encourage more than 30,000 throughout the UK to take advantage of this free health check.
