SPEEDING traffic through an East Cornwall village is to come under the spotlight at a special meeting shortly.

Councillors in Calstock are to meet with highways officers to discuss lowering the speed limit through Harrowbarrow.

At a meeting of Calstock Parish Council last week, Cllr Lorraine Palmer said she had recently attended a village management meeting in Harrowbarrow, where the subject of speeding in the village, particularly during schools runs in the morning and afternoon, came up again.

'It is beginning to be of grave concern,' she said.

'There is going to be an accident soon in the village if something is not done about speeding.

'I have been asked to find out the procedure to get the speed limit in Harrowbarrow lowered to 20mph.'

Councillors reported that drivers had been reaching speeds of 60-80mph on roads in and out of the village.

Cornwall Councillor for the area Russell Bartlett said he would request a meeting in Harrowbarrow with highways officers, himself and parish councillors.

Cllr Jerome Irons said unfortunately 'you could have as many speed limit signs as you liked', but it did not always mean people would slow down.
