COMPLEMENTARY therapists are needed to join St Luke?s Hospice?s outreach project at Tavistock Hospital. The Complementary and Alternative Medicine Team provide a range of therapies to patients and their carers, working alongside their medical treatment to help alleviate side effects and symptoms of their illness. Helen Frances, manager of complementary and alternative medicine at the St Luke?s, said that the CAM team works to enrich not only the quality of care for patients but also their quality of life. She said: ?Many of our patients use CAM therapies to aid physical and emotional relaxation. Many others use it to successfully reduce the symptoms of their illness.? Therapies given to the family or friends caring for a patient are also very well-received. ?Carers hold a vital place in the patients? life. By providing them with treatment our aim is to support their health and well-being during what is often an emotionally and physically demanding time,? said Helen. Volunteers specialising in aromatherapy and reflexology are particularly needed. Practitioners who offer their services will be given support and in-house training about cancer and other life limiting illnesses. For more information contact Helen on 01752 401172.
