CHILDCARE students at Duchy College Stoke Climsland held a tasty cake sale for local charity Children’s Hospice South West recently.
Not only did they manage to raise £104 for the charity, but the event also formed part of the students’ personal employability skills development, as they had to plan, arrange and deliver a team event where they could evaluate their own and others’ performances.
Laetitia Mayne, team lead for children, schools and families at Duchy College, said: ‘This cake sale demonstrates the students’ resourcefulness and ability to produce a successful event. There is a strong ethos within the college to really engage with the local community and this was the perfect recipe.’
All students involved are studying the Higher National Certificate in Children and Young People’s Workforce, where they learn a wide range of topics associated with child development, including creativity, health and safety and safeguarding.
