MEMBERS from the Make a Difference Café Project celebrated their first year with a party held at the Parish Rooms in Tavistock. The café has been a success in its first year with the help of many people from the community supporting mental health recovery. Music was provided by Two of a Kind and café members prepared a buffet of food which was supplied by Ravi and Solvita, owners of the Spar shop in the post office, who support the café. As the café is mental health service user led, its aim is to provide a safe, relaxed and welcoming environment to anyone who has mental health difficulties. Its view is to build confidence, raise self-esteem and give people a chance to feel accepted into society. The café is open to both service users and the public each Friday from 10am to 2pm in the Parish Rooms, and on Monday to service users only. Trustees from Make a Difference have applied for charity status to enable them to obtain sufficient funding to expand and ultimately provide an even better service from their own premises.
