WEIR Quay Sailing Club Cadets (pictured right) enjoyed an evening's social and prize giving at Bere Ferrers village hall, rounding off a successful season.
Club Commodore Mick Johnson presented the prizes, with Jo Coomber winning the cadet of the year trophy. Peter George won the award for the cadet who has improved most over the season, and Rowan Holmes won the prize for the quickest capsize after leaving the slipway! A huge thank you from all the parents to Steve Kirby, Barry Stott and Allen Seward, who voluntarily give up most of their Friday evenings to instruct the cadets, all of whom have shown great improvement this year.
Cadets sail at Weir Quay on the Tamar every Friday evening from April to September. This year has also seen extra events such as a camping weekend combined with a 24-hour sail, and cruisers hosting cadets on an away day to Plymouth Sound.
The cadets are currently fundraising for an RS Feva dinghy to add to the fleet. More details on Weir Quay Sailing Club are at http://www.weirquaysailingclub.co.uk">www.weirquaysailingclub.co.uk
