THE longest-serving civilian instructor Tavistock Air Cadets have ever had made his final official appearance recently.
Barrass Laing from Bere Alston joined 2312 Squadron in 1980, quickly becoming qualified as a range officer. He has since taught hundreds of young people to shoot safely and well.
Barrass attended all activities, including camps, gliding and flying.
A spokesman for the cadets said he always had the welfare of the cadets at heart, particularly Tavistock Cadets.
His dedication and commitment have been marked by a number of awards: a commandant?s certificate of good service, and CI long service award, a commandant?s commendation and a Lord Lieutenant?s certificate for meritorious service.
Barrass was dined out by the squadron at the Royal British Legion at the end of September and was presented with a picture by local artist Sandra Pollard depicting his involvement with the cadets.
