ARMY cadets from West Devon were among those attending the presentation of new banners for the county's army cadet force at Exeter last Saturday, July 13.
The banners are similar and have the same significance as 'Colours' do to a Regular Army Regiment.
A total of 450 Cadets and a 100 of their officers and sergeant instructors marched through the centre of Exeter and formed up on the Cathedral Green led by their Corps of Drums and their Commandant, Colonel Ashley Fulford.
Cadets from Tavistock, attached to B Company, were inspected by the High Sherriff of Devon, John Lee. Cadets from Okehampton, attached to C (North Devon) Company, were inspected by the Lord Lieutenant of Devon, Sir Eric Dancer, and the Commandant, Col Fulford, of Barnstaple.
The old banner was marched off to the sounds of Auld-Lang-Syne.
The new banners were presented to Devon ACF by Sir Eric Dancer. This was followed by a march past of the new banners with the Lord Lieutenant taking the Salute, and then into the cathedral for a service of dedication conducted by the Rev Alan Glover, senior chaplain of Devon Army Cadet Force.
Hundreds of spectators, which included family and friends, witnessed the event.
