A 40-TONNE articulated lorry was in collision with an electricity pole in Parkwood Road, Tavistock, on Monday morning, causing the top of the metal pole to snap off and live cables to collapse into the road.
The incident happened at around 7.40am and commuters arriving by car were diverted as the road was closed. Pedestrians were allowed to use the road once the cables had been made safe by Western Power Distribution.
A new pole was erected and power was restored to the area during the afternoon, when the road was re-opened. A police spokesman said that no-one had been injured in the incident.
