Devon Intermediate Cup Second Round

Tavistock . . . . . . . . . . . 3

Lamerton . . . . . . . . . . . 4

IN a nail biting match the visitors began the brighter and went in front when Zak Beesley turned the Tavistock defence before squaring the ball to Paul Cowling who sidefooted home.

The lead was doubled shortly afterwards when Beesley fed Steve Gibbings on the right and his cross was sweetly flicked in by Dave Byworth.

The third goal came when Cowling latched on to a Kev Swift through ball and beat the home keeper and at that point Lamerton were coasting it.

Just before half time however Tavistock were awarded a disputed penalty which was converted by Kev Blatchford and this gave the home side a real boost.

The second half saw a much different pattern of play with the home side starting to dominate when Blatchford scored his second from close range. They were dangerous down both flanks and the Lamerton defence was given a real test.

The vital goal came mid way through the half when Steve Gibbings headed in superbly from a Cowling corner to get back a 2 goal cushion. Yet again Tavistock came back and Blatchford completed his hat trick with a long range effort which nestled in the top corner. With play going into injury time the home side forced a series of corners and Byworth saved the day for Lamerton by heading off the line.

In the third round Lamerton will play Eurodash FC from Plymouth on November 6. This Saturday home to St Breward in the league, ko 2.30pm.
