If possession and territory counted as points, Okes would have won by a canter. Only resolute and determined defence kept Torquay in the cup.
It would be hard to ignore the late withdrawal of Searle and Vick, especially as Okes missed five penalties and a drop goal. Passenger, for the visitors, kicked three penalties from four attempts, that was the difference of the sides.
The game had excitement, commitment and drama, none more so as it became tense and edgy. With private battles brewing, the game erupted towards the end into a brawl, not something to be proud of.

There was still time for Buzz Brimmacombe, making his debut at 17, nearly to cap a fine display with a 60-metre run, chip and chase and then Griffiths almost scoring.
