Tavistock Ladies 1sts 4
Chudleigh Ladies 2
THIS game opened with some strong attacking hockey through the midfield which allowed the running forward line of Judy Miller, Emma White and Jo Gaspar to put the opposition under pressure in the D.
Kath Collar, Laura Stapleton and Susannah Boulle switched the ball from side to side allowing Lisa Butler to connect and do some good crosses into the D.
Chudleigh had a break and despite the strong defensive play of Tavistock, the ball was struck into the back of the net. Tavistock went on the attack with Fiona Dunn and Steph Mills battling for every ball that came past the 25 yard line.
Sandra Collar marked out players on the pitch which enabled Laura Stapleton to feed the ball out to Gaspar on the wing, who struck a hard ball across the D. Miller was in prime position to feed it into the goal.
It appeared that the defence of the opposition could not cope with the barrage of Tavistock players as all the midfield moved up and surrounded the D. Gaspar claimed the second goal of the match as the ball was rebounded out then struck back in.
Zoe Viggers was having a good game in goal and despite a few short corners being awarded against Tavistock, she was quick to keep the ball safe.
Dunn and Boulle were out quick in defence and prevented the direct strike.
Short corners awarded to Tavistock were well executed and it was from one that Stapleton scored to put it to 3-1 at half-time.
The first 20 minutes of the second half saw Tavistock controlling as Dunn and Mills moved up the pitch to feed good balls into the D.
But the game went scrappy and Tavistock were put under pressure in the defence area. A lucky strike across the top of the D allowed Chudleigh to bring the score to 3-2.
Tavistock picked up their game. Butler scored the last goal by taking on the keeper in a one-on-one.
Player of the match: Laura Stapleton.
