TEN carrier bags of donated tins and packets of food were delivered to the Tavistock Food Bank just in time for Christmas, thanks to the generosity of people in Gulworthy.
The donation was the result of the Advent appeal at St Paul's Church.
The Gulworthy community enjoyed a busy December, including a lunch for around 90 senior citizens ad the regular carol service with mulled wine and festive nibbles served to a congregation of 70.
The church was packed for Gulworthy School's service and almost 100 WI members from the West Devon area enjoyed a carol service that blended modern and traditional elements.
Gulworthy School's ever-popular Christmas presentation played to three packed houses in the parish hall — a fitting end of term celebration following their 'outstanding' Ofsted inspection two weeks previously.
St Paul's festive season was rounded off by a successful Christingle party held in the parish hall instead of the church. Following a brief service led by the Rev Michael Brierley, 40 children and adults made Christingles, joined in games and enjoyed a party tea. Peter Mawer, former head at Gulworthy Primary, used an illuminated globe of the stars and talked about where the wise men came from and the possible star/comet/meteor that the wise men could have followed.
The next event to be held is a quiz and pancake supper on Saturday, February 9 at 7.15pm in Lamerton Village Hall. Tickets are £10 each and are available from Tavistock Parish Office or from Gulworthy churchwardens Judith and Mary Ann.
