TAVISTOCK-based Stannary Brass Band is looking forward to a busy summer, with a hectic list of engagements planned. They recently played at the Devon County Show, Westpoint, Exeter, they were due to play at the Flavel Centre, Dartmouth on Saturday at a concert with the Kingsmen Barbershop Choir — and this is followed by Buckland Monachorum Fair this coming Saturday. The band's next appearance in Tavistock is at St Eustachius Church on Saturday June 21, at 7.30pm. Up to 40 members of the Gilbert and Sullivan Fellowship from Plymouth will also be performing, at the request of the band. Concert tickets are on sale at Fulfords in Tavistock or on the door, at a cost of £5 for adults and £1 for children. More details about the band and its engagements can be found on it's new website: stannarybrassbandtavistock.com which was designed by band member Steve Wagstaff. Plans are underway for Stannary Brass Band to travel to Pontivy, France in October to take part in the 50th anniversary celebrations of the town's twinning with Tavistock. Accompanying the band will be the new mayor of Tavistock, Cllr Robin Pike, together with several town councillors, the Rev Michael Brierley, and other friends of the band. The band always welcomes new players of any ability — instruments are often available for beginners. At the moment the Youth Band has vacancies for players, and trombonists in particular. An informal audition is required — anyone wishing to come along and meet the band during rehearsals at Mount House School should contact J Northey on 01822 612675. Fundraising continues for new instruments and the band is always grateful for donations or offers of raffle prizes.
