THE end of 2007 saw Fairplace Church play host to many Christmas celebrations. Highlights included an Advent carol service after which the Okehampton Choral Society performed old and new carols with the audience and choir joining the singing. A new arrangement of The Twelve Days of Christmas, made by John Holland, was particularly popular. Okehampton Primary School were also part of the festivities, performing two carol services and excelling in both their singing and playing. The wives and friends group from the church, aided by the men's forum, in an event organised by Deidre Madders, heard readings of the Christmas story at their annual candlelight service. However, stealing the show was the Sunday club with its nativity play The Innkeeper's Christmas Party. The club also featured in the church's annual carols by candlelight service which drew in a full house to share the Christmas spirit. The Christmas Eve midnight communion and the Christmas morning service marked the close of the Christmas activities. Ann Holland, of Vicarage Road, Okehampton, added: 'The decorations in the church were well appreciated by everyone who entered and added much to the enjoyment of each event. 'The crib and the tree in the outer porch were seen by everyone who passed by and provided a focal point during the shopping days leading up to Christmas, not least for the mothers and toddlers group who, with the help of Rev Philip Wagstaff, held a short crib service. 'Although Christmas is over for another year, Fairplace church remains open for anyone to come and share in its fellowship and in the many activities it provides.'
