THREE West Devon hotels have performed well in the latest guides and awards.
The Horn of Plenty at Gulworthy has been listed as one of the top five hotels in Devon according to independent Great Britain and Ireland hotel publication The Good Hotel Guide.
Listed as ‘the best for a view’, the guide calls the hotel’s location in Gulworthy a ‘crowd pleaser’.
It stated: ‘First-rate service, good food, comfortable rooms and plenty of character — what more could you want from a country house hotel?
‘The Horn of Plenty has all that but it’s the location that’s the real crowd pleaser. This 19th century house has unbeatable views across the Tamar Valley from the terraces, rooms and from the restaurant. To quote one Good Hotel Guide guest “exquisite”.’
The Arundell Arms Hotel at Lifton and sister company Devon Hampers are celebrating after winning four golds between them in the 2016 Taste of the West Awards. The hotel is only hospitality venue to be awarded three golds which it received for best hotel, restaurant and for the first time, casual dining. Devon Hampers has been awarded gold as an online retailer.
Business owner Adam Fox-Edwards said: ‘We are delighted that we have won four gold awards. It is our own Rio moment and reflects so well on the efforts of the whole team over the year.
‘It is a great boost to morale and we are thrilled to be finalists for hotel of the year and online retailer of the year. As nearly everything that we serve at the hotel and certainly everything that goes into our hampers is locally sourced, it shows just how strong our region is.’
The Taste of the West Awards programme has been promoting and supporting the South West food and drink industry for over 20 years and this year marks its silver anniversary.
The Moorland Garden Hotel near Yelverton has once again impressed the AA, having retained its four stars for a second year under the world-renowned hotel inspection and star-rating scheme.
The accolade, following a visit by an AA inspector, saw the hotel retain its four black star-rating as well as the rosette achieved by The Wildflower Restaurant.
Announcing the news, general manager Andrew King said: ‘We’re thrilled to have kept the four stars from the AA. Not only did the AA judge the Moorland Garden Hotel worthy of retaining the accolade, but with an improved merit score too.
‘The fact that we’ve delivered great quality, consistently, has given the entire team a huge sense of achievement.’
The Moorland Garden Hotel has undergone an extensive refurbishment programme since Brian and Sonia Meaden purchased the property in 2011. The hotel was first recognised with a four star-rating last August.
In June, the Moorland Garden Hotel introduced a new relaxed dining concept, an innovation praised in the AA review.
Diners and guests can now choose to eat from the one menu in either the restaurant or the Dartmoor Bar.
