MICKEYS Plaice in Tavistock has closed its doors after a customer in its restaurant last night (Thursday) tested positive for Covid-19.

The popular restaurant on West Street said it would be closed until a deep clean had been completed and everyone concerned had been contacted.

In a statement a spokesperson from the restaurant said: ‘We always follow strict Covid guidelines around contact and cleaning and this is strictly a precaution.'All affected customers were also contacted immediately on us getting the call. I would also like to stress that the customer who tested positive had absolutely no symptoms and had the test as a routine, weekly test required for their job. They had no reason to suspect they were positive and have followed all guidelines and acted responsibly and contacted myself and test and trace as soon as the test results came back. They are absolutely horrified that they have been out with the virus. We have contacted all relevant authorities, including public health England, test and trace, EHO and Covid helpline. 'We were advised that we do not have to close, we closed this lunch time (Friday) voluntarily to perform a deep clean. I also have a professional cleaner here as we speak with a professional fogging machine as an extra precaution. This is also entirely voluntary. 'We were given the go ahead so will be reopening the takeaway and delivery service this evening but the restaurant will remain closed until tomorrow.'
