PROJECTS are currently being prioritised to enhance Tavistock over the next five years should businesses vote to renew the BID scheme in the summer.
It is planned to hold the ballot in June to decide whether BID will continue.
The 289 town centre businesses involved in the town centre enhancement and marketing initative are being consulted on what they would like to see in the town to improve trade over the next five years.
A final plan will then go out with the ballot papers in the summer.
A Business Improvement District is a defined area in which a levy is charged on all business rate payers in addition to the business rates bill. This levy is used to develop projects which will benefit businesses in the local area.
For the scheme to go ahead there needs to be a simple majority both in votes cast and in rateable value of votes cast.
BID manager Lisa Piper said some really good ideas had come out of the consultation meetings so far and she hoped all the businesses would be involved in saying what they would like to see in the future should BID continue.
BID is also investigating whether it should include a wider area of town businesses.
Are you a member of BID or would you like to be??Do you think BID has given Tavistock a boost since it was implemented five years ago? What else would attract people to Tavistock’s high streets.
