ONE Okehampton and the Okehampton Chamber of Trade are working together to bring back a weekly market.

It will be located throughout Red Lion Yard and consist of local produce and products. Starting on April 14, the initiative is a result of building on the markets last summer and during the Christmas period.

The markets are part of One Okehampton’s wellbeing project designed to make the town centre a social hub. Teaming up with the Chamber of Trade creates a great working partnership that will hopefully create a boost for the local economy in addition to bringing visitors to the town.

The popular Sunday markets are proposed to begin again at the end of April. These will feature a more social element with charities and clubs offered free stalls again but also tables for reading the papers, colouring, skill sharing and more. This focus is again part of the well-being strategy.

Rebecca Green, chair of One Okehampton said: ‘We are over the moon to be in a position to have not just one but potentially two very different markets on in town every weekend, it helps promote the town centre as a hub for feel good activities that increase well-being and ultimately by building on the already great Okehampton community. Valuing the people of the town leads to increased health, happiness and harmony.’

Okehampton Chamber of Trade secretary Shane Green said: ‘The skill sharing between One Okehampton an the Chamber of Trade is an example of what can be achieved when organisations work together. We are all really committed to making the markets work.’
