A SHUTTLE bus organised by Okehampton Chamber of Trade to take train passengers from the railway station to the town centre was such a success recently it will be repeated.

Letters of thanks about the shuttle have been received from both businesses and attractions in the town and passengers on the special charter train from London which pulled into Okehampton on February 5.

Chairman of the chamber of trade Ian Bailey told members at a meeting last week it must have been one of the chamber's 'better ideas.'

The shuttle bus was in operation for two hours ferrying people back and forth from the station.

There were in excess of 400 people on the train and Mr Bailey said the pubs and cafes reported good takings.

'One person said they had not seen so many people in the town on a Saturday morning for a long long time,' said Mr Bailey.

'There will be more trains coming into Okehampton during the summer and I propose we do the same thing again.

'If it gets people from the station into the town and hopefully spending money then it has got to be good.'

It was agreed to continue the shuttle service during the summer — the cost to the chamber being £50 each time.
