IF you feel your skills could be used for the benefit of the community then the Okehampton and District Citizens? Advice Bureau would welcome you dropping by.

Volunteer helpers are much in demand. With more than 3000 enquiries last year the bureau ? based in the Ockment Centre, North Street ? is a busy office and rewarding place to be.

?If you are looking for something fascinating, challenging and personally rewarding, give us a call,? said CAB manager Barbara Osborne.

The Okehampton

bureau has ten volunteers ? some advisers and some who help with administrative needs.

?The amount of time they give to CAB varies. But what they all have in common is their commitment to the Okehampton area and our community here,? said Ms Osborne.

?Being a CAB adviser will boost your skills, self-esteem and make you some new friends.?

She said formal qualifications were not needed and full training on a national programme was provided. The CAB certificate in Generalist Advice Work gives volunteers the skills necessary to provide the right advice on any subject.

?Trainees are supported right the way through and regular reviews help them develop their skills. Many find that CAB training and experience can help to provide a route into paid work.?

Ms Osborne said there were various volunteering opportunities such as IT support, social policy, training, fundraising and the Trustee Advisory Group.
