SPLENDID summer sunshine was the icing on the cake for the Brentor Show, held last weekend. Organisers said bumper entries, 309 in total, made this one of the best shows ever and in addition, more than 60 entries were on display from Mary Tavy & Brentor School representing three separate school projects. All judges commented on the very high standard of exhibits and their pleasure at judging them. Christchurch in the village was the setting for the floral art displays. Best in Show was Jackie MacRostie?s delightful painting of her family at the seaside. Resident with most points, a hotly contested category, was Adrian Arnold, child with most points was Aiden Mason and non-resident with most points was Poppy Arnold. Cups and rosettes were also awarded to Lisa Churcher ? cookery, Adrian Arnold ? potted plants, Audrey Millar ? floral art, cut flowers ? Mike Mott, fruit and vegetables ? Jenny Beavon, photography ? Colin Dawes, men?s cake ? Ivan Churcher, eggs ? Elizabeth Ray-Jones and the garden club prize for the best planted container was awarded to Sue Stephens. Winners of the School Projects were Elizabeth Collingwood for her artwork of local flowers, India Haining for her writing about the second world war and Charlie Bishop for his Aztec mask. An auction of produce and flowers followed the prize giving and funds raised will be donated to buy seating at the childrens? play area in the village.
