THE splendid sum of £5,719.19 was last week donated to the Children's Hospice South West's Precious Lives Appeal by the Horn of Plenty at Gulworthy — on the same day as it was announced that work is due to start on the new children's hospice, Little Harbour, this month.
The diggers will be arriving on the site as the team from Midas Construction begin work on the charity's third hospice in the region, to bring CHSW's special service closer to home for families with life-limited children from Plymouth and Cornwall.
The staff and customers of the Horn of Plenty have shown tremendous support during the Appeal and thanks to their loyalty to the charity, local families will benefit from having this wonderful facility so much closer to hand.
Peter Gorton, executive chef at the restaurant, said: 'I have been a supporter of Children's Hospice South West for a long time and to see the dream to bring the care they offer so much nearer to our area become a reality, is fantastic!'
Local fundraiser, Judy Pride, said: 'All the staff at the Horn of Plenty work incredibly hard during their charity lunches and I can't begin to thank them for all they do for us.
'Not only do they generate a huge donation for us every year, they also raise the profile of what we do so that we are uppermost in people's minds throughout the year.'
