A BULL'S head is the latest sculpture to be donated to Hatherleigh by local sculptor Steven Hunton and will take pride of place in the town square.
A ram's head was made and presented to Hatherleigh last year to mark Mr Hunton's 25 years as a resident and also as a symbol of the foot and mouth crisis.
The new sculpture, made from a type of cement, will be placed opposite the ram's head on the steps leading to the town square. The wooden base is being made by Alan Cranley.
Mr Hunton said Hatherleigh was famous for its livestock and it was only right that the cattle element was represented.
'Hatherleigh has been a great place to live and bring up my children so I wanted to do something by way of a thank-you to the community.' he said.
Mayor of the town Dennis Bater said Hatherleigh was becoming quite well known for its art — the farmers and sheep in a pen sculpture in the Market Car Park was one of the first art projects to be funded by a European grant.
'The town council has welcomed this new addition and we are very grateful to Mr Hunton,' he said. 'It will balance up the sheep's head on the other side of the steps and will look a treat.'
