FIRE crews were called to a building fire in Thorndon Cross, Okehampton in the early hours of Friday morning (January 17).

Two crews from Okehampton and a crew from Hatherliegh attended the incident just after 3am and initially thought there may be a person trapped inside.

At around 3.41am crews were searching the detached bungalow and used six breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, one safety jet and one thermal imaging camera.

A positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear smoke from the building and crews confirmed there was no-one in the house.

Just after 4am the fire crews managed to extinguish the fire. The bungalow was left severely damaged by fire and 80% damaged by smoke.
