AN APPLICATION to build 13 houses and 4 flats on the Westbridge Depot Site was approved by West Devon Borough Council planning committee last week.

The 17 proposed dwellings are a mix of nine two-storey two-bedroomed dwellings, four two-storey three-bedroomed dwellings and four one-bedroomed flats built as a cul-de-sac.

A planning officer said that although the brownfield site had no requirement for affordable dwellings, the applicants — West Devon Homes Ltd — intended utitlising it for this. The site is the former Biffa contractor's depot on Plymouth Road, adjacent to Tavistock Service Station.

The site also includes a car sales area at the front, which is to be vacated.

The planning permission was conditional on the local planning authority approving the materials to ensure they are compatible with the Conservation Area opposite. It was also subject to a time limit.
