South West Peninsula League Division One East

Budleigh Salterton 5

Okehampton Argyle 0

BUDLEIGH centre-forward Danny Williams bagged a hat-trick as the home side comprehensively put Argyle to the sword at Greenway Lane.

To be fair to Argyle, they had seven regular first team squad members missing through injury or unavailability, meaning that joint manager Stuart Cann was the only available substitute as their other joint manager Neil Agnew had to act as club linesman.

The opening goal came in the second minute when Paul Rowsell slotted home from a corner. After falling behind so early, Argyle did well to hold the home side to this score until half time. Shane Monnox picked up an injury after about 30 minutes, but struggled on manfully rather than let the team down.

After the break, Monnox kept going for about 10 minutes but eventually had to be replaced by Cann and keeper Saul Scarry had a lengthy spell of treatment after picking up a shoulder injury.

It was not to be Okehampton's day and on 68 minutes, Chris Wills' despairing last minute tackle brought down Budleigh's Luke Kelso in the area. Unfortunately, Wills was sent off for being the last man and Williams converted the penalty.

The depleted Argyle side struggled on, but it was no surprise when Craig Higham headed Budleigh's third in the 77th minute. Four minutes later, Williams headed home the fourth and the striker completed the scoring and his hat-trick three minutes from time with a fine individual effort.

Despite the score, central defender Kevin Gill was the man of the match for Okehampton.
