AROUND 40 people attended the annual dinner of Spreyton Cricket Club at the Tom Cobley Tavern.

Past year's captain Hugh Griffiths began by thanking Roger and Carol Cudlip of the Tom Cobley for their hospitality and presented Carol with a bouquet of flowers. He thanked president Stuart Powlesland and his wife Helen for their gift of the wine for everyone that evening.

The highlight of the cricket season had been Spreyton's excellent performance in the Buckley Cup, coming runners-up to Belstone and beating Belstone in one match. The continuing success of the club is very much due to the work of Chris Filor, Bob Unsworth and Steve Smith.

The ground is beautifully maintained by Bob Unsworth and Clifford Elston, who has kept such an excellent wicket.

Captains for next year will be Hugh Griffiths, Buckley Cup, and Chris Hedley-Dent, weekend fixtures. Fixtures will be arranged by Chris Filor.

Hugh paid tribute to the ladies who provided such delicious teas and to the two scorers, Nanette Unsworth and Eve Collins, who were given a small gift.

Tribute was paid to Trish Smith who had played in one match when the team was short of players.

Chris Filor read out the statistics of the season. The batting award went to Steve Wright, who was instrumental in the success in the Buckley Cup. Also mentioned was Cleave Collins for his batting performance, though he does not play for Spreyton in the Buckley Cup.

Praised for their bowling over the season were Horse Tomkins, Chris Hedley-Dent and Cleave Collins.

A special award was presented to Alex Scougall. Cricketer of the year shield went to Cleave Collins.

Hugh ended with an appeal for players to come and help with the make-over of the pavilion on November 15 and 29.
