Taunton 2 Tavistock 1sts 2 TAVISTOCK travelled to Somerset for a fiercely contested hockey game against a strong Taunton side. The game started off with both sides creating chances. Tavistock passed the ball well and with Brooks and Horton up front could not capitalised on an early opportunity. Against the home side?s strong midfield Tavistock struggled to hold the central ground. Taunton soon punished the visitors with a controversial goal, however Tavistock battled to create good chances down the right hand side with the speedy Hawkins coming close on several occasions. Tavistock went into the second half optimistic and hungry for goal, however, Taunton punished them further with a well struck short corner. With strong team spirit Tavistock dug deep and soon scored a well worked goal created through the dynamic midfield of Honey and McDougal up to the strikers to put the ball away. This gave Tavistock the glimmer of hope that they needed although Taunton continued to play good hockey which the experienced Tavistock defence were able to handle. In the last minute a skilful run down the left by Cooley and a sublime ball through by Horton gave Brooks an opportunity to put away in style and give Tavistock a well deserved draw.
