The British Masters? Track and Field Championships were staged at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, where Tavistock athlete Richard Drage did his town club proud. The championships attracted many of the top veterans from all over Britain. The two days of intense competition included all track and field disciplines in the usual five year age groups. Richard Drage representing Tavistock Athletic Club competed in the 5,000m in the M45 age group. The race was won by Bristol AC?s in form Daniel Moore in a time of 15 minutes 44 seconds. Richard, running strongly, moved through from fifth to third over the final four laps and was delighted to claim a championship bronze medal, in a time of 16 minutes 2 seconds. The next British Masters? championships are the 10k road races being held in Powys in September.
