PRINCETOWN Primary School has been feeling the brunt of the cold weather this week with freezing temperatures and broken heating forcing the school to close for two days.

Headteacher Ali Hirst said: 'We have been having problems with our heating since the summer and it had to be turned off last week due to the fan that takes the fumes up the flue not working.

'We have been managing to stay open and get the classrooms warm enough using electric heaters, but with this exceptionally cold spell we had to send the children home on Monday morning.'

Engineers worked all day on Tuesday to get the boiler working again and children returned to school as normal yesterday (Wednesday), just in time for the school's Christmas fair.
