AN appeal was this week issued following the removal of a banner advertising a charity event due to take place in Tavistock this weekend. The banner was advertising a six-a-side football match to raise money for Paul Lewis, a young Tavistock boy who suffers from autism who has made great improvements through the work of the Son-Rise programme. The banner was on the roadside on the approach to Tavistock College but last week vanished. Maureen Whitmore, whose printing firm produced the banner, said: ?Why on earth would anyone want to remove it or take it down? It was there advertising a really good cause, to help a little boy with autism. Our grandson has Asberger?s Syndrome, so this is very close to our hearts.? The football match is being held at Crowndale on October 29 at 2pm when a team from Tavistock Tyres takes on a team from the Union Inn. There is also going to be a pumpkin party at the Red and Black Club. Maureen appealed for the poster to be returned to Whitmore Screenprint on the Pixon Lane Industrial Estate. ?They can leave it outside the front door if they want to be anonymous,? she said. The charity event will also include an auction of a signed football donated by former England World Cup number two goalie Peter ?The Cat? Bonetti who was keeper between 1966 and 1970. All proceeds raised during the day will go to the Son-Rise Programme, which helps severely autistic children. Anyone can go to the match and the celebration afterwards.
