A STRONG Bideford made it hard work for a visiting Okehampton with the pack creaking, especially at scrum time.
Playing with the wind in the first half the pressure told and Bideford gave away a penalty. Buzz Brimacombe stepped up to secure three points.
With the midfield of Brimacombe, Tom Powell and Phil Woods excelling, it was not long before they split the Bideford defence and Phil Woods powered over for a try, Brimacombe converting.
From the restart Bideford scored an unconverted try. Bideford were now back in the game and competing well at the breakdown, winning turnover ball, but the seconds' pressure again told and Brimacombe darted through a gap to feed Mark Butler to sprint in for an unconverted try.
Playing against the wind after the break, the seconds were under pressure but defending well. Injuries to Dom Vandendorp and Alex Taylor brought on Billy Cloak and Simon Bennett, who seemed to settle the pack.
Bideford conceded another penalty; Brimacombe stepped up and kicked three points.
With 15 minutes to go replacement Adam Curtis broke the line and fed Sam Turner, back from injury. The ball went to George Trerise, who stormed in for a try and with the conversion made the final score 25-5.
