THE people of Hatherleigh have been praised for their support in raising money for the Christmas decorations this year.
A coffee morning and quiz night at the Bridge Inn raised £146 and £46 respectively and £73.50 was given in donations.
Town clerk Gina Lane said that with the money the town council had been able to buy all the replacement Christmas lights it needed, the Christmas trees and four strings of small lights which had been damaged last year by the wind.
'The money raised was brilliant,' she said. 'The people in the town are so willing to give. Everyone enjoys the lights and they are really lovely.
'We are also really grateful to the volunteers who put up the lights — if we had to pay someone it would just not happen.'
