THE fourth annual Barchester Dartmoor challenge which took place last Saturday was another resounding success.
More than 100 walkers arrived for the event to take part in a variety of walks. These ranged from eight to 19 miles across the moor led by 29 Commando and supported by off road vehicles.
The 'Ace group' of participants success-fully completed their route and proved again what can be achieved by those with physical disabilities with many of them in wheelchairs.
The weather was stunning and all walkers made it back to the Burrator Inn in Dousland for presentations of t-shirts, certificates and awards. In the evening the raffle, auction and hog roast raised more money for the two worthy causes to benefit from the sponsored event, Holidays for Heroes Jersey and the Barchester Foundation.
While money is still coming in the organisers are expecting to match last year's total of £7,000.
Event organiser Pam Hardy said: 'It couldn't have gone better and everyone has had such a brilliant day, it's all down to team work, no matter what your abilities. We are all overwhelmed with the support and what has been achieved.'
