Liskeard 8 Tavistock 47 TAVISTOCK moved into second place in the Cornwall and Devon League after this seven try demolition of Liskeard at Lux Park on Saturday. Tavistock started brightly moving the ball wide at every opportunity. This allowed wings Joe Lane and Colin Smerdon space to test their hosts. The Liskeard defence initially held firm and it was infact Liskeard who opened the scoring with a penalty from fly half Marcus Hill after Tavistock were penalised for being offside at the breakdown. Tavistock replied almost immediately with a try from skipper Duncan Law. Tavistock won a line out and after winning the second phase fly half Josh Sutton chipped over the Liskeard defence for Duncan to dive on the ball to claim the score deep in the goal area. Tavistock felt they should have been awarded a second try when centre Neil Evans crossed but the referee ruled that the ball had not been grounded. On twenty minutes Tavistock did increase their lead with a try from full back Alex Hudson after the ball had been moved wide. A penalty goal converted by Josh Sutton increased the Tavistock lead to seventeen points to three. The young Liskeard team then kept Tavistock out until as half time approached they leaked two tries in quick succession. First Tavistock had won an attacking five metre scrum and the pack drove over the line allowing number eight Jude Rotton to claim the try. The final score of the half came when prop Rob Monk made a break along the lefthand touchline, he found winger Colin Smerdon in support and Colin unloaded in the tackle to scrum half Lee Greatrex who then sprinted in from twenty metres. Josh Sutton converted the last two tries of the half. The second half was a rather scrappy affair and both sides had players sent to the sin bin as the referee?s strange decision making caused frustration in both camps. Neil Evans made amends for having a try disallowed in the first half with a try soon after half time. Flanker Paul Greenhill crossed wide out on the left and as the game came to its close skipper Duncan Law burst through for his second try. Josh Sutton converted one try and added a penalty goal. With only seconds remaining Liskeard grabbed a consolation try when they worked winger Duncan Fraser clear on the left. Unfortunately for Tavistock the referee missed some illegal blocking which made the space. This Saturday Tavistock entertains Honiton at Sandy Park. Kick off 2.30pm.
