FORMER Olympic British swimming team captain and Kelly College director of swimming Robin Brew from Tavistock wowed a crowd of more than 7,000 by winning a bronze medal at the 2005 British Indoor Rowing Championship? the country?s biggest indoor sporting event. Robin (43) raced in the Men?s 44-44 heavyweight category at the event at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham this weekend and finished in a time of 6 minutes 09.9 seconds to claim his third place. More than 3,000 competitors raced at the event this year ? the championship?s 15th ? and ranged from 10 year old rowing novices to a 95 year old World War Two veteran! The event was also represented by a massive cross-section of sports from runners and triathletes to boxers, weight lifters and rugby players. The Open events included current world champions from the Men?s Coxless Four and Women?s Quadruple Scull ? with Graham Benton winning the Men?s Open and Sarah Winckless taking the Women?s title.
