BRENDA Truscott, ladies? captain of Hurdwick Golf Club, was delighted to shoot her first ?hole in one? on the eighth hole during a home match against Wrangaton Golf Club.

This proved to be an expensive achievement as Brenda had omitted to join the ?Hole in One? club, which provides a lump sum to enable the occasion to be celebrated in an appropriate manner.

Also pleasing was the match result, with Hurdwick ladies obtaining another victory to maintain their unbeaten record for the year.

Tony Pearson and Jason Archer continued their successful run, with a hard fought win over Ray Spear and Derek Blackmore to take the president?s plate for 2003. Both had further successes to come, with Tony winning the midweek medal with a net 68.

In second place, on countback, was George Sargison with a 70 and club captain Rodney Browne was in third place, also with a net 70.

The main competition for June was the annual Hurdwick Hundred event which is made up of separate Saturday and Sunday medals, with the combined two-day winner taking the trophy.

In division two George Whitfield was the winner with a net 78, Ray Truscott was second with 80 and Rodney Browne in third place with 83.

The ladies were led home by Josie Whitfield with 72, followed by Val Raine on back nine from Rosemary Rea, both with a net 77.

In division two, Phil Bryant shot the lowest score of the weekend with a net 66. Clive Miles was second with 71 and Rodney Browne yet again taking third spot with 73.

The ladies? winner was Sally Arscott with a good 67, Audrey Pugh in second with 78 and Josie Whitfield third with 79.

The only three ?twos? of the weekend went to Jason Archer, Tim Hawkins and Ray Hurle who shared the twos sweep,

The winner of the men?s Hurdwick Hundred trophy was Tim Gale, by a narrow margin over Jason Archer with Kevin Pugh in third place.

The ladies? trophy went to Josie Whitfield with Audrey Pugh in second place.

Thunderstorms resulted in the cancellation of the planned barbecue which has been re-scheduled for July 5, when the annual Captain?s against Secretary?s team match takes place.
