VISITORS to Dartmoor were faced with an eclectic mix of costumes last weekend, as teams of 'convicts' escaped from Dartmoor Prison for the 28th Dartmoor Jailbreak.

Among the teams was the 'Baskerville Experience' from Postbridge who escaped on foot to their home turf.

The team was led by Sylvia Agnew, dressed as the lady of the house, with Jeff Savage and David Brookes dressed as Sherlock Holmes and Watson and Sandra Brookes and Christine Stiff were dressed as maids.

The hound was wheeled away in a bath chair.

The other teams involved were the Torbay Police on their 12th escape dressed as members of Toy Story— who are aiming to be on the run for a week to create a new record for visiting the most historic monuments across Europe, the Dawlish Udders disguised as cows hoping to make a record for the most miles covered in England for a week, Kevin Clarke from Bristol and the Abbeyfield Society from Torpoint dressed as flappers.

Dartmoor Jailbreak aims to raise money for Vranch House School and Centre for children with cerebral palsy in Exeter.

Organiser of the event Sue Gould said: 'Although the turnout was tiny due to school holidays, Easter and the royal wedding, it did not dampen the teams enthusiasm and the costumes were terrific.

'They still expect to raise £5,000.'
