Tavistock Reserves 1

Bere Alston United 2

BERE ALSTON got the New Year off to the perfect start to nick all three points in this keenly contested West Devon derby in front of a good Bank Holiday crowd at Langsford Park.

Away manager Kevin Taylor fielded the same eleven that had won at Torpoint last time out and despite a three week lay off Bere started brightly.

Jason Cordice, Paul Simpson and Marcus Pethick for Bere Alston had all gone close before Stefan Kelly fired Tavistock into the lead against the run of play in the 15th minute.

The visitors were level two minutes later when Marcus Pethick's low drive was parried by Jamie Blatchford and Dan Follett was on hand to ram home the rebound.

Bere continued in the ascendancy and took a deserved lead ten minutes before the break when Paul Simpson played in Euan McCall down the right; his cross was met at the near post by Jason Cordice, who set it back for Chris Bray to drill past Blatchford.

The second half was end to end and pretty even albeit without many clear goal scoring chances for either side.

The Bere defence were doing a good job to keep the Lambs' danger man Jarryd Kelly quiet and apart from a long range Robbie Court effort, Jack Dixon in the Bere goal was rarely troubled as the visitors held on for the win that gives them a league double over their close rivals and ensured them the local bragging rights until next season.
