Bere Alston United 1
Morwenstow 0
BERE ALSTON ended a run of three successive defeats with this hard earned three points against relegation threatened Morwenstow at the Recreation Field.
The effects of their recent poor run was evident in an edgy opening 20 minutes and despite dominating possession Bere only created two worthwhile efforts of note.
Firstly Dan Follett shot straight at the keeper and then Paul Simpson had a shot well saved when perhaps Chris Bray was better placed to score.
The remainder of the half saw Bere continue in the ascendancy only to be frustrated by the lack of a final pass and a resolute Morwenstow defence.
A slight change in formation saw Bere begin the second half with more purpose and Nick Aplin was unlucky not to open the scoring when his shot was saved by the Morwenstow keeper's outstretched leg.
Bere should have taken the lead on the hour, but Marcus Pethick's driven cross was scooped over the bar by Chris Bray from six yards.
However, Bray was not to be outdone and five minutes later he latched onto a long ball over the Morwenstow defence before coolly slipping his shot past the onrushing keeper.
Despite laying siege to the Morwenstow goal, the cushion of a second goal never came and although the visitors did not have a single shot on target, Bere had to endure a nervous last five minutes before securing the three points.
