A BRAVE rescue dog has been pinned back together after suffering from broken bones, thanks to local vets and staff at Margaret Green Animal Rescue in Wingletang.

The three-year-old stray Jack Russell, now named Alfred, was taken into the centre by the West Devon Borough Council dog warden. He was unable to bear weight on his right hind leg due to a fracture of the mid femur and was booked in for an operation the day after his arrival.

Donna White from Margaret Green Animal Rescue said: 'It was found to be an old fracture so there is no telling the amount of pain that this tough little chap must have had to endure.

'Worse still, with old fractures the bones do not tend to fit together as neatly, so an intramedullary pin was tied into an external fixture frame to prevent rotation at the fracture site.

'Although Alfred has been in a lot of discomfort since his operation, he has never stopped smiling and not once told us off during the essential cleaning of his wounds twice a day.'

Alfred is soon to have the fixator frame and the pin removed, and then his rehabilitation can start in full.

Donna said: 'This brave little chap so deserves a loving home when he recovers, he really is an absolute sweetheart.'
