A CHEQUE for £500 will be presented to Cancer Research UK by the Tavistock Versatile Brass Ensemble.

The donation will be handed over during a Last Night of the Proms concert by the ensemble ? known as TUBES ? which takes place in Tavistock Town Hall on Friday, September 12 at 7.30pm.

Local spokesperson for the charity Elizabeth Harding praised the people of Tavistock, saying that over the past few months they had contributed ?most generously? to Cancer Research UK.

The Tavistock and District Gardening Club let the charity have a stall at their flower show, and the customers of the Spar Shop in Ford Street completely filled a collection tin in three weeks.

?It would be great if lots of our supporters and friends could come along to the ?Last Night of the Proms? concert and join us in celebrating a most successful year,? said Ms Harding.
