Tavistock B 4 Ashmoor A 0 AFTER suffering two heavy defeats on the trot Tavistock bounced back with two good wins. After beating local rivals Okehampton by three goals to nil, Tavistock managed to keep a clean sheet mainly thanks to the new goalkeeper Roberts. Tavistock entertained Ashmoor and the home side wanted to capitalise on the win from the previous week. The game started well for Tavistock wholooked the stronger of the two sides. With Ali making a return for the team, he dominated the right wing and the visitors could not find an answer to stop his running and passing of the ball. With Tavistock in control it was not long before the first goal was scored by Josh Cowan, which was a well taken shot from the top of the ?D?. This eased Tavistock?s nerves and when the home side were awarded a penalty flick after an error of judgement by the visitors? goalkeeper, Ali stepped up to score the second goal. The team grew in confidence, and with a strong defence of Bellard, Cowan Senior and S Roberts Ashmoor could not find a way through and Roberts in goal had little to do for the home side. Tavistock now started to play some good hockey and the midfield controlled by Wood and Curnow made life difficult for the visitors and continued to feed the attackers with some good passes. This resulted in the third goal which came from a shot by Ali who hit the post and Mackintosh was there to put the ball in the goal. It was Mackintosh who then went on to score the fourth. By half time and four goals to the better the second half should have been a goal festival for home side but it was not to be. The captain made some substitutions during the interval, but by doing so, Tavistock seemed to lose their shape. Ashmoor never really threatened the home side although had this been a stronger team, Tavistock may have not been so lucky. When the final whistle blew Tavistock had secured the three points to help their position within the league. Although this was a good win for Tavistock they must not get complacent as there will be stronger teams to play over the next few weeks.
