Duchy Premier St Minver 1 Gunnislake 5 THERE was a minute?s silence before the game to mark the death of Dave Piper on the previous Wednesday. Dave has been a fantastic supporter of Gunnislake football club and had generously sponsored the team for many years. A minute's silence was also observed prior to the reserve teams fixture at Dynamo St Dennis. Gunnislake were awarded two penalties in the opening 15 minutes of this match, which Jarryd Kelly and Anthony Underwood each converted. As the visitors had the better of things struggling Saints dug in and ensured no further goals were scored before half time. Nathan Dore increased the lead in the opening stages of the second period and it looked as though Gunnislake might repeat their eight nil win against the same opposition two weeks ago. But an improved Saints were in no mood to allow this and reduced the arrears soon after with a good shot after a corner was only partially cleared. Gunnislake?s superiority did see them score two more. Kelly completed his brace when he evaded a couple of challenges before striking home from 20 yards. Underwood also grabbed a second when he produced a strong run from the halfway line before applying a calm finish. The winning margin was nearly increased as Dore was twice denied by the woodwork. But the win was enough to move Gunnislake back in to second place. This Saturday sees local rivals St Anne?s Chapel visit Gunnislake for a Cornwall Junior Cup second round tie, kick off at 2 p.m. Dynamo St Dennis 0 Gunnislake 4 The reserves matched the achievement of their first team and went second in their division with this excellent win against a side who had won all their previous league matches this season. Gunnislake came out all guns blazing straight from the kick off and it wasn?t long before the experienced strike duo of Adam Brimacombe and Andy Southcott worked some magic with the latter opening the scoring after 15 minutes. Gunnislake continued to dominate and doubled the lead on 22 minutes through Gary Smith, who beat two players and held off a challenge to complete a great finish. James Taylor orchestrating from the side lines urged Gunnislake to push forward and Joe Pulley benefited from great work by Ashley Dobson and a cross by Brimacombe to make it three nil. Gunnislake were still hungry for goals and the hosts found themselves four down when Pulley cut in past two players from the left to finish superbly from 25 yards to find the top corner. In the second half Gunnislake stood firm. Goalkeeper Ian Gray along with the defence of Martin, Gaggini, Doidge and Taylor cut out any threat that FC Dynamo threw at them. It was an excellent team performance which sets them up for next week?s cup game against Looe.
