Walkham Valley v Carvell Computers
IN gloomy but dry conditions at Plympton, Walkham Valley Cricket Club were invited to bat first against Carvell Computers, and quickly lost James Vincent to an excellent caught and bowled by Tranter.
Richard Berry and Tim Baxter then steadied the ship with a partnership of forty, Berry retiring for an accomplished 25. Baxter and Sandy Ralph then kept the runs flowing steadily, but were unable to penetrate the long boundaries too often, before Ralph fell to Stone.
Baxter was out for a valuable 17, but the innings never gathered much momentum against steady bowling, and Walkham finished with a disappointing 92 for 4.
Lewis and Tranter got Carvell Computers off to a brisk start after Smith had fallen to a catch by Alistair Peers off Tom Shepherd. Lewis was run out, and then Tranter was bowled by Peers, but despite an impressive rearguard action by the later bowlers, Shepherd, Ralph, Vincent and Berry, Carvell kept their composure and achieved their target with eleven balls to spare.
