IS it not time that the ratepayers in Tavistock had a square deal from the town council? With the rate of inflation now averaging 2.25% Cllr Mathew seems to think that a rise of 10% annually is justified.
A proposal for a precept of £193,000 includes a sum of £90,000 for work on the council offices. The interests of Tavistock would be better served if the council?s activities were taken over by the borough council, thereby creating an economy of scale.
In this way ratepayers? interest would be looked after by the district auditor unlike the total absence of supervision currently prevailing.
