AN opticians in Okehampton has helped children to stay safe this winter by making a special donation.

Specsavers, located at 17 Fore Street, donated 200 high visibility vests to children at Okehampton Primary School to raise awareness of Road Safety Week (23-29 November) an initiative by Specsavers’ charity partner, Brake.

Karen Reader, store director at Specsavers Okehampton said: ‘Now that the clocks have changed and the nights are getting darker, we want to ensure that children and their parents feel safe when they’re out and about over the next few months.

‘By raising awareness during Road Safety Week and by offering the children these vests, we hope that they take extra care on trips and excursions.’

Brake is a national road safety charity which exists to prevent deaths and injuries which happen on roads on a daily basis, through campaigns and other funding.

The charity also promotes safe and sustainable road use and effective road safety policies.
