Tavistock U16s 32
Totnes U16s 10
TOTNES made the early running but strong tackling by the Tavistock defence prevented any scoring opportunities.
Good runs by Rufus Gould, Dan Oner and Elliot Northmore came to nothing as the visitors held firm. A tap penalty saw Jack Bond get to the visitors' 22 where Joe Hair picked up and drove forward. From the ruck the ball was worked out to Tom Thursby who made a tremendous weaving run up the line for the half's only try.
Early in the second half, after several turnovers, Totnes drove over for a try. Tavistock hit back with a try for Jack Bond after Dan Oner offloaded following a pick up and run.
The next try came again from Bond, who pounced upon loose ball after Sam Lindsey put in a tremendous cross-field kick to the corner that the visitors' defence fumbled. Bond got his hat-trick straight from the kick off as the ball was fed to him on the wing and he outpaced the defence to score in the corner.
The home team were rampant and following a tap penalty, prop Ewan McQueen drove over for his first try for the club. Josh Leeson converted.
Tavistock's final try came following a break from his own half by Tom Rickard. The supporting George Harold offloaded to Sam Lindsey to touchdown under the posts. Totnes managed to go over for a try in the final play of an entertaining match.
Tavistock U15s 18
Plymstock U15s 15
TAVISTOCK U15s, playing their first match of the season, came up against a well organised and powerful team in Plymstock, whose early dominance of the front row tested the resolve of the pack.
Combatitive by instinct,Tavistock rose to the initial challenge and despite going a try down fought back to take a 10-5 half-time lead, following some explosive running by the backs.
Pete Meachin, making his first appearance for the U15s, led the fightback with an impressive display in both the pack and in the loose.
With forward play dominating, there were limited opportunities for a patient back line, with Monty Burdfield probing continuously.
A third Tavistock try and David Lunn's penalty in the second half put the game beyond Plymstock, and despite a late fightback, Tavistock ran out winners.
Man of the match: Pete Meachin.
